Chris Gould - Maitri Mandala Arts

Much of the art that I create is influenced by the experiences that I have had as a bilingual teacher, as well as by the diverse places that I have lived in. The symbols, colors, shapes and themes are a reflection of my encounters while traveling all over the world. Especially influential was my time living in Latin America and India. There is so much beauty and richness in the cultures around the world and in the complexity of the human experience. My drawings are a reflection of my inner landscape as much as they are an expression of the outer world. Each drawing feels like a meditation. I hope to express the interconnectedness of life in my art. When I am working on a drawing, I feel the need to be open to that creative, divine energy so that the art can be made through me. In this open state, it becomes important to “listen” to what the drawing wants to become. In this way, there is a form of spirituality and divine connection in the act of creating.
